Keep the Stomach Full to get Rid of Acidity
Acidity is a burning sensation in the digestive tract. The reason for this condition is a high concentration of digestive enzymes and acids forming in the tract.
This is caused mainly by irregular meal times. If the gap between any tow meals is very long then acid collects in the empty stomach and sometimes rises in the esophagus, making the burning sensation spread even to the throat. The first rule is not to keep the body empty early in the morning. On rising, drink two large glasses of warm water to clear the tract and then some warm milk or milky coffee / tea. Coffee and tea are best avoided if the acidity is severe. Breakfast may be eaten an hour later.
If breakfast is t 8 am there should be fresh fruit and plenty of water by 11 am. This is to be followed by lunch at 1 pm. After this, the gap until dinner is 7-8 hours. A 4 pm snack of one glass of milk and two biscuits and a 6 pm snack of a fruit is a must. Dinner should be between 7-9 PM and if you stay up late then you may have another fruit or a cup of warm milk before sleeping. Don't sleep on an empty stomach.
Some foods cause more irritation than others. These are : green chilies, Chile power, other spices, sour foods, fat-rich foods, oily non-veg dishes and deep fried snacks. Smoking, tobacco and chewing tobacco can increase acidity. Stress and tension, too, increase the production of acids. So, if you have this problem and control your diet but are stressed, the acidity may continue. Untreated acidity can lead to the formation of peptic ulcers in the digestive tract.
One of the biggest causes of acidity is inadequate intake of water. All those with acidity must drink at least three litres of water everyday. Buttermilk also has a soothing effect on the digestive tract. Walking helps to relieve stress and may help to regulate and reduce acid formation. So walking and drinking enough water with the right diet is what will solve this problem.
